This book is a practical handbook for LNG Officers and others involved in the operation of modern LNG carriers. The third edition provides clear guidance on the mechanics and processes involved in LNG carrier operations, setting out onboard procedures in a logical sequence with clear diagrams, checklists, guidance and instructions, together with an insight into the underlying chemistry. The book has also been updated to reflect the latest amendments to the IGC Code, providing the latest practical reference for modern LNG carrier operations.
This third edition also discusses emerging technologies, refinements in onboard practices and up-to-date operational experience, helping to ensure this title remains an essential reference for ships’ officers working on board LNGCs and for officers looking to transition onto LNGCs. The third edition has been updated reflect the latest developments in the technical and operational aspects of LNG shipping and the transportation of LNG by sea. New content includes information on floating LNG facilities and custody transfer surveys, while existing guidance has been revised to reflect current operational practice, including in-service operations and departure from the load port.
The book covers the operations undertaken throughout a typical trading cycle for an LNG carrier, including post-dry dock operations; drying of cargo tanks; inerting of cargo tanks; gassing-up; initial cooldown; cargo loading; departure from the load port and the laden voyage; cargo discharge; ramp-down and post-discharge operations; the ballast voyage; ship-to-ship transfer; and preparations for dry dock, including warming-up, inerting and aeration of cargo tanks. Expanded guidance on post-discharge operations and planning considerations for future voyages is also included.
Operational 3D models have been revised and annotated, with colour-coded arrows showing the direction of flow to provide greater clarity of the processes involved, particularly during drying, inerting and gassing-up.
