BIMCO Holiday Calendar 2026
The Holiday Calendar 2026 lists the general holidays for each country, as well as the operating hours of the country's main ports and terminals. This new edition has been revised to offer even better coverage, reliability and transparency.
This publication is the most trusted and unbiased source of worldwide holidays and working hours in the shipping industry. It is an essential reference when voyage planning and negotiating charter parties and to help avoid disputes with third parties.
The most significant improvements in this edition are:
- Increased focus on local and regional holidays
- exclusion of conditional and labour agreement holidays and greatly improved verification of entries supported by local, legal documentation to ensure reliability
- holiday legislation is reflected at national, regional and municipality level.
At BIMCO, our core focus is to provide our members with expert knowledge and practical tools that drive their business growth. Our BIMCO Holiday Calendar is a prime example of this commitment-its information is widely accessible through various platforms to ensure that our members and the broader industry can utilise it effectively. The information can be accessed as follows:
- BIMCO Website: The information is readily available online at the BIMCO website, providing an easy and convenient way to verify BIMCO Holidays.
- API Integration: For a more seamless experience, the information can be integrated directly into your own system via our publicly released API. This allows for real-time updates and personalised access.
- Third-Party Platforms: We understand the importance of reaching a wider audience and have therefore partnered with various third-party platforms. Through these platforms, BIMCO?s holiday information is available to members at no additional cost.
- Direct Support and Advice: Through holidays@bimco.org, we offer direct support and advice related to the Holiday Calendar information. This ensures that our members can fully utilise the information and resolve discrepancies and doubts.
Please note that while the information is broadly available, the online access, API integration, and direct support and advice are exclusive benefits to our BIMCO members. For more information, please contact BIMCO using holidays@bimco.org.
The BIMCO Holiday Calendar provides detailed information on holidays at various levels: National/Federal, Regional/State/Provincial, and Local. These holidays typically fall into three categories: Fixed, Movable, and Relative. Fixed holidays align with the Gregorian/ Western calendar, Movable holidays have procedural observation or adhere to other calendars like the Islamic lunar calendar, while Relative holidays are determined based on other events or calculations.
With the BIMCO Holiday Calendar, charterers and owners have a reliable guide to clarify what should be considered a laytime holiday under a charter party. In case of discrepancies between the calendar and actual experiences concerning holidays or working hours, we encourage members to refer to the BIMCO website, which is continuously updated. For any persisting discrepancies, members can reach out to BIMCO directly at holidays@bimco.org for expert advice.
