Stay Compliant with Ballast Water Guidelines Using Witherbys’ Updated Ballast Water Record Book
The Ballast Water Management Convention (2004) requires all ships of 400 GT and above to keep a record of each ballast water operation performed on board. Guidance on completion of a Ballast Water Record Book (BWRB) was previously provided in BWM.2/Circ.80.
In October 2024, the IMO adopted a revision of this circular:
• IMO – BWM.2/Circ.80/Rev.1 – ‘2024 Guidance on ballast water record-keeping and reporting’.
This revised circular adds important guidance on ballast water operations in challenging water quality and provides example BWRB entries for a wide range of scenarios. This is in line with the 'Interim guidance on the application of the BWM Convention to ships operating in challenging water quality conditions'(Resolution MEPC.387(81)).
The revised guidance is included in the new edition of Witherbys’ Ballast Water Record Book. This 6th Edition helps ensure compliance with the latest regulations and provides step-by-step instructions and blank record tables for recording both routine and non-routine ballast water operations.
