This Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) Record Book provides a systematic record of the supply, use, recharging, discharge, and disposal of ozone-depleting substances contained in rechargeable systems on board, in accordance with the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973 (MARPOL 73/78), Annex VI, Regulations 3 and 12.
Systematic use of this ODS Record Book enables the Master and engineering officers to:
- Trace the complete lifecycle of every ODS charge from receipt on board through servicing, recovery, and disposal, enabling reconciliation of quantities during survey or inspection
- provide evidence that no deliberate emissions of ozone-depleting substances have occurred outside the controlled conditions permitted by Regulation 12
- record the handling of non-ODS refrigerant gases where maintained as good practice, providing a consolidated refrigerant management record for all on-board systems
- demonstrate compliance with MARPOL Annex VI, Regulation 12 during port state control inspections, flag state surveys, and IAPP Certificate surveys by providing a complete and traceable record of all ODS handling on board.
