This logbook is in compliance with IMO Resolution MEPC.277(70) – Amendments to MARPOL Annex V (in force 1 March 2018). It is for completion by all ships to record disposal of garbage listed in the Part I garbage categories. It includes instructions on completion and provides records sheets in the required tabulated format.

MARPOL Annex V, regulation 1.2 requires a tabulated record to be kept of all garbage discharges, including discharges to the sea, to reception facilities and accidentally.

This book is to be used by all ships for recording disposal of garbage categorised in Part I:

A Plastics

B Food wastes

C Domestic wastes

D Cooking oil

E Incinerator ashes

F Operational wastes

G Animal carcasses

H Fishing gear

I E-waste.

The book must be retained on board for at least two years after the final entry is made and may be produced on inspection to demonstrate compliance with the IMO mandatory recordkeeping requirements.

In accordance with regulation 10 of Annex V of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973, as modified by the Protocol of 1978, (MARPOL), a record is to be kept of each discharge operation or completed incineration. This includes discharges into the sea, to reception facilities, or to other ships, as well as the accidental loss of garbage.

  • Discharges under MARPOL Annex V, regulations 4, 5 or 6, or chapter 5 of part II-A of the Polar Code
  • Exceptional discharge or loss of garbage under regulation 7
